Sony Communities was proud to participate in Global Smurfs Day 2013.  Following on from the hugely successful Global Smurfs Day of 2011, Sony Pictures and Sony Communities joined forces to offer lucky competition winners a chance to take part in a once in a lifetime experience, acting as “Smurf Ambassadors” and joining thousands of Smurf enthusiasts from across the globe.

Communities awarded prizes to winners from the UK, Benelux and France.  From France our Community winners were Heidi and Jonathan. From the UK our winners were Antoinette and Andrew and from Benelux our winners were Liane and Johannes.

In total, thirty three countries sent “Smurf Ambassadors” to Brussels and Paris for a Sony Pictures Smurf Ambassador Event on Global Smurfs Day.  Each Ambassador travelled from their home country to Brussels, arriving on Friday June 21^st.

On Saturday June 22^nd, the International Ambassadors, who were all ‘Smurfed’ participated in a Smurfs Ceremony in Brussels where Véronique Culliford (the daughter of Peyo, the Smurfs creator) presented them with a certificate, acknowledging them as Global Smurf Ambassadors!

With the international media on hand capturing the excitement, the Smurf Ambassadors then boarded a Smurfed up Thalys train for a ‘Smurf invasion’ in Paris.

Throughout the Smurfs weekend the Ambassadors captured their experience using a brand new Xperia Z smartphone which was also presented to them as part of their prize!

Uploading their images to Communities via Instagram, Facebook and Vyclone, Smurf Ambassadors showed Communities and the world where they were, what they were doing and how much fun they were having (see the images in the up-coming gallery, and watch the video below!).

What’s next for Communities and The Smurfs!?

With the Global Premiers beginning towards the end of July, Communities will be running competitions across its major regions to give away tickets to the “Blue Carpet” premiers!
