A6400 vs. A7 III, cropping by sensor vs. by computer (Lightroom), impact on picture quality?

What is the difference, if any, when using A6400, where the cropping is done by camera sensor and you get a specific size picture compared to using A7 III and doing the cropping by computer (Lightroom), aimimg for similar size picture? What is the technical difference in these two methods to get similar size final picture?

Hi Siipyyvj ,

Well the cropping by sensor does not really affect the picture quality. Also, if the image is taken in RAW cropping it shouldn't make a huge difference in the quality.

The qualities of the A7 file will be exactly the same whether cropped in-camera by setting APS-C mode or in Lightroom from the full-frame file. However the cropped A7 file will have around 10 megapixels versus 24 from the A6400, so it will not enlarge as well.
