SEL35F28Z Firmware Update does not work

Hi,

 

My SEL55F18Z lens updated its firmware without any issues from the Sony site, but my SEL35F28Z will not get past the 'Updating the lens... Do not turn off.' message on the camera itself. The white bar beneath the message (which is supposed to turn orange as the firmware is updated by the camera) stays stuck and will not change; this continues to happen after several tries.

Any suggestions? Could the the lens be faulty? Thanks in advance.

I eventually found the UK announcement hidden in FAQ’s for some reason! 

It just say’s to contact Sony, who didn’t seen to know about the problem!
The customer service adviser eventually gave me a number to ring Sony Central Service.
 
The Number you Should call is 01656 867250, who will email you a form to fill in and
a pre-paid post label for you to send and get the software repair.
 
I sent mine on Friday, so fingers crossed I get it back soon.

I'm quite sure your lens is not faulty. For reasons unknown, there are messages on fora where people say that on (e.g.) an A7 it couldn't be updated, while on an A7II it could etc. So you're not alone :slight_smile:

 

I had a similar experience in the past when on sensor phase detect AF compatibility became available for existing lenses...on my own camera I couldn't update my lens, on another model it was no problem...strange but unfortunately, not uncommon.

 

But of course, that does not solve your problem...

I replaced the lens, but the replacement lens also will not run the update procedure on either a Windows PC or a Mac. It seems there is batch of faulty lenses.

I have just purchased the SEL35F28Z lens that will not update either.

The link given is for the USA. Do you know what arrangements have been made for customers in the UK.

I couldn't find a link for the UK either, have you found a solution already?

Printing the notice from the US website with a cover letter would probably work too if you'd send it in.

 

But I'll look deeper into it!

I have reached out to one of my contacts within Sony to see if they can link me to a UK or European announcement, as soon as I receive a reply I'll update this thread..:smileyhappy:
