Sony SLT A33 power on issue

Hi!

I was just wondering if somebody has ever experienced their camera going off in the middle of taking pictures and then not powering on again.

I had this issue yesterday. It wasn't an overheating-related issue. I was taking a photo with the NR ISO 3200 mode on and the camera stopped halfway through it and turned off. I didn't get the overheating warning or anything. I turned the control dial to OFF and then to ON again but the camera didn't switch on. I still had about 50% left of battery. I then replaced the battery pack for a newly charged one and nothing. I reconnected the lens and tried different lens too but the camera won't simply turn on. It doesn't make the little noises when you insert a battery pack. It's just dead.

I still have a warranty but I'd like to cross out all other options before sending it in because I have two trips coming up and I'm not sure if my camera would be returned before the dates of the trips and I'd really hate spending them without my camera that's given me lots of fun. I'm so frustrated right now.

I appreciate any help you can give me.

First of all, I would advise you to check that you have the latest firmware installed on your camera - version 2.0. All of the instructions for updating the firmware are available here:

Aside from the above step, as you have said that there is some warranty left on the camera, I would definitely advise you to get in touch with customer services and the details you need are here:

The most obvious reason for getting in touch is so that you don't let the warranty expire and are then faced with a physical fault that needs repair. However, the people in the customer service centre will usually be able to advise on some checks that can be done over the phone, camera in hand, which may mean that you will able to pinpoint the problem without having to send the camera away. In the event that the fault is a physical one, they will be able to advise you about the potential timeframe for a repair so that you can plan accordingly before your trip.

Thanks Simon,

I've decided to take my camera to the place where I bought it. They are going to take it to Sony's repair centre I think because they wrote down that they're goint to service it under the warranty guarantee.
