Hi Kobo has a Help section for Sony eReader users;

http://help.kobobooks.com/  just add Sony to the search box

There are two options for transferring Kobo books to a Sony eReader. The first works with newer models (like the PRS-650 and PRS-350). The other may also work for you if you use a Windows system.

To transfer Kobo books to a Sony eReader

Use this procedure if you have a newer Sony eReader. You will need to:

  1. Set up your eReader so that it can read books protected by Adobe's Digital Rights Management (DRM) technology.
  2. Download and transfer your Kobo books to your eReader.

To set up your Sony eReader:

(You only need to do this once.)

  1. Install the latest version of the Sony Reader Library software.
  2. Create an Adobe ID so you can read eBooks protected by Adobe Digital Rights Management (DRM) technology.
  3. Authorize your eReader using your Adobe ID and the Sony Reader Library software.
    1. Launch the Sony Reader Library.
    2. Connect your eReader to your computer using the supplied USB cable.
    3. In the navigation area on the left side of the Sony Reader Library, click eBook Store and sign in to your Sony account.
      1. Click the Sign In link.
      2. Enter your Sony account credentials
      3. Click the Sign In button.
  4. The software should detect your eReader and display an area titled “A Device Has Been Detected”, which will list your eReader. Click the Authorize button in this area.
  5. Enter your Adobe ID and password, then click Submit. Sony will authorize your eReader with Adobe.
You can now transfer DRM-protected eBooks from the Kobo Store to your eReader.
Note: If at any time you are prompted to authorize your computer, follow the onscreen instructions to authorize and enter your Adobe ID and password to complete the process.

To put books from the Kobo Store on your Sony eReader:

  1. Sign in to your Kobo account.
  2. Click the Library link near the top right of the screen.
  3. Click the Purchased link just above the I'm Reading heading.
You will see a list of all the books you've bought from the Kobo Store.
  4. Find the book you want to add to your Sony eReader and click the download button next to it. (This may read "ADOBE DRM EPUB" or "ADOBE DRM PDF".)
  5. Click the button to download the file.
  6. Find the file you downloaded on your computer, and right-click it.
  7. Select Open With, and then Reader Library.
Your Sony Reader Library will add your book to its library.
  8. In the Sony Reader Library, find the book you just added and drag it to the Reader icon.
That's it – your Kobo book is now on your eReader. You can eject your eReader and start reading.

Alternative method: Using the Kobo Desktop Application

Try this method if the previous procedure does not work for you.

NOTE:  This procedure only works on Windows computers.

1.  Ensure that you have installed the Sony Library software that comes with the Sony eReader.

2.  Ensure that you have the Kobo Desktop Application installed.

3.  Start the Kobo Desktop Application and sign-in to your Kobo account.

4.  Once signed in, connect your Sony eReader to your computer.

5.  Once connected, the Kobo Desktop Application will display an eReader icon on the bottom left corner of the screen and will show a Sync button.

6.  To transfer your library to the Sony eReader, click Sync – the application will transfer ePub versions of books in your library to the Sony eReader.

Hi,

It sounds like you need to create an Adobe ID which is part of the authorisation process for DRM protected books.

You can check if your Reader is authorised by going to the home menu and selecting 'Settings' and then 'About'.

If you read through the informartion on the 'About' page you should find under the section about Adobe whether your device is authorised or not.

If it is not authorised, then can I suggest trying the following link:

http://support.sony-europe.com/contacts/email/email.aspx?site=odw_en_GB

In the search box at the top type 'getting started'.

In the list of results you should get a couple of PDF files at the top with getting started guides for various Reader models.  If you have a look in the one for PRS350/PRS650 there is a generic section for purchasing eBooks (that should work the same for your PRS-600).  It covers the the on-line stores that are part of the Reader Library software, but the basic process is the same for any website that has Adobe DRM protected EPUB books.

Hope this might help you.

Bear in mind that not every Kobo file works with Sony eReaders. I was having difficulties opening a copy of The Goldfinch on my PRS-350 (bought from the Kobo bookstore via the Sony Reader app), and received this reply from Kobo:

'We are sorry that you are experiencing this issue with your purchase.Unfortunately EPUB 3 title "The Goldfinch" by By Donna Tartt can only be downloaded over Kobo servers to Kobo platforms and are not available to third party devices, specifically those that require a download to the computer or sideloading.

We truly apologise for the confusion and inconvenience. To discern the format of a book, look at the "Available on these devices/Read on this" section of the listing. Books that are available for less than seven (7) devices are generally not compatible with third party devices and can only be downloaded over Kobo servers to Kobo platforms.'

So you need to check how many devices the file is compatible with before you purchase it.
