Same thing has happened to my reader. Retailer has said it's my fault and could not give any details about approaching the manufacturer.

Although I used mine for a couple of weeks, it is now useless. I am looking to buy another brand that has better manufacturer support.

THANK you for the reply, yes I will attempt to take a picture and post. BAsically it is like shadows blacking out much of the screen so impossible to use. The retailer says it is screen damage and they take no responsibility. I have never even read ONE book so me not very happy at all!!

Thank you for your reply too....it is amazing that we seem to have spent a considereable amount of money on these items, and we have not had any use. I have been advisedc to write to teh head of EU SOny with  formal complaint. I can pass the email onto you but maybe you should write to the retailer too??

it is so disappointing, as I cannot see a positive outcome and we are landed with junk. I am now avoiding SONY items  like the plague .....

I would try to contact Sony Support directly.

They have been extremly helpful the times I have had to contact them (VAIO screen exchange because of clouding, A900 hot shoe exchange).

IIRC it extremly difficult to hurt an eInk screen, they can take alot of abuse before they break. Your products are defect and should be replaced.

I have had exactly the same problem - the reader was OK the previous evening, but when turned on in the morning it had large black patches. PC World said it was broken, our fault and would not exchange it. It's only a month old and we have looked after it extremely carefully, have no pets etc to damage it overnight. Does anyone have an email for contacting Sony support? I have registered (or I would not be able to post here) but it will not recognise me and refuses to give an email without signing in.
