HT-RT5 soundbar no on screen display with new 4K tv

I have recently upgraded my samsung fhd tv to a Phillips 4k tv. I have connected the soundbar via hdmi to the tvs arc input. I am unable to see the any sound adjustments made on the screen. I have switched on and off the option to display osd but it still has not worked. Any ideas how to fix this?

Hello @Mohoshin,

it probably only works if you feed a video source into the soundbar (connect a device to one of the HDMI inputs on the soundbar) and from there to the TV, not when you just use the soundbar for audio playback via the ARC port (e.g if you watch Netflix on the TV and the soundbar takes the audio from the TV).

Thanks for your reply it makes sense. However i am sure i used to see the soundbar osd on the screen (by this i mean only the volume) when i was using netflix\prime and usb movies on my older samsung tv.

If i connect a optical cable from tv to sound bar and keep the hdmi out to the arc input of tv would this resolve the issue ?

Hi @Mohoshin  Not knowing anything about Phillips TVs. Have you checked that the TV's HDMI Control is switched on? Normally with HDMI Control switched on your TV's Remote should control the HT-RT5 volume and display it on screen.

Note HDMI Control is also known as CEC (Consumer Electronics Control).

Yes i made sure all the hdmi cec seeing were on on both the sound bar and tv. Strange thing is that my settop box was able to show osd ( soundbar volume level) even though it is directly connected into the tv
