RDR-HXD770 update?

Hi 

My recorder has stopped working and shows UP DATE on it's screen? I have turned the power off and left it 30 seconds and turned the power on again, it showed the time for about 30 seconds then UP DATE showed again,

I have read the manual but can not fined any mention of UP DATE!!!! 

I have tried sony's own trouble shooting as well

Please could some one help
