Smart vs Android

I've just purchased a brand new sony bravia, smart tv...

I we're unaware of the limitations with the app store on this tv..

Disappointed is an understatement, it seems that it's only sony that have this silly issue, and after reading reviews on smart vs Android not one chose the smart over android...

Can anyone tell me why sony are still manufacturing this out dated technology??

I feel like I've been ripped off..!!

It's like having a black and white tv and not the colour....

Hi Anttomo84,

Welcome to the community.

I'll see if i can track down some advice for you about the app store. Maybe someone else in the community has some tips in the meantime.

Thanks,

Pascale

Hi Anttomo84,

It is true that Android TVs have better app support through Google play, but isn't that true about every Android device out there?.

The Way I see it, Sony is creating diversity in their TV line up with TVs ranging from simple sets to smart TVs with specific applications programed for that platform, all the way to the full Android experience. So you can have a choice depending on your needs. Not everyone needs/uses the same range of apps on their TV.

actually i'm happy that my xe70 isn't android.. it based on Linux vs sometimes the buggy Android. if you know some about computers, then you know what i mean. beside that it came pre installed with Netflix and Youtube. for other apps, there's computers, tablets etc... so i really don't need more than essentially. well, maybe Hbo Go.. so i brought an Chromecast witch works perfectly w my Sony. based on Linux is more stable and menu is more faster.

I've got both! And I can tell anyone : DO NOT buy a non-Android smart TV...... The choice of apps is terrible. You must have Android to be able to sideload apps than you can't find on Google Play. I own a KDL-55W & a KD-55X8507 the latter one is Android & I have no problem with playing from USB's etc.... the earlier(non-Android) TV is a nightmare! The picture is great & so is the sound but the media side leaves a lot to be desired. I think Sony should develop more apps for these earlier smart TV's because the ones that are on the Opera TV store are rubbish.
