sony KLD-37EX403 power button on rear of remote?

i have recently bought a KLD-37EX403 and want to know what is the power botton on the back of the remote of? is any different form the one on the from?

The Sony FAQ's on the website for this model gives the folowing explanation:

"It is a new design for 2010 models, which enables power control availability even when putting the remote  back-side-up on the table."

It is probably a feature which was asked for during market research as these remote commanders are too heavy to pick up and turn over
