Blank screen

Hi!

My Vaio vgn-s1xp had some problems with the display, and
unfortunately I formated the harddisk.

Now - when I turn the laptop on - there is NOTHING on the
screen.

I have the original recovery discs.

Any help to get my half-dead Vaio back to life would be much appreciated.

Thanks...

Regards

Jan

Hi Jan and welcome to Club Vaio.

Three questions to try to identify the problem: -

1. Do you not even see the first splash screen with the Vaio logo?
2. Does the Vaio seem to be working apart from the screen? Does the hard drive light come on as if it was working normally?
3. Can you borrow a monitor and VGA cable? Try connecting this and pressing F7. Do you get a display?

I thought I had a VGA cable, but I don't have one.

I'll check on this tomorrow.

But as the hard disk light is not flickering I guess that is
bad news...:-(

Thanks for your help anyway!

Jan

Hi Jan,

Yes, if there is no activity at all it sounds bad!

Take the battery out and disconnect from the mains. Hold the power button down for 30 seconds and then reconnect the mains only and try again.

Are you sure your AC adapter is working properly?

Are there no sounds at all? Do no lights flash? Does the DVD drive make a noise? If it does you could try inseting your first Recovery Disc (you may have to open the drive by inserting a thin pointed tool into the small hole on the drive to open it) and try to boot.

Doesn't sound too hopeful! I prsume the warranty has expired?

I agree - I have a serious problem (or - rather - my Vaio has...).

One final thing:

When I turn on the power - how do I access the bios screen?

(Since I purchased my Vaio in spain it has spanish keys)

Thanks again from

Jan

You can try pressing F2 repeatedly when you turn the Vaio on - but I doubt if it will work if you have no Vaio Splash screen.

If you do get the BIOS screen, choose to set the default values and then Save and Exit.

It does sound like a trip to the repairiers as it appears there is no power getting to the Vaio.
