Cannot read burnt DVD's

I have a brand new Vaio VPCEB3JOE and when trying to load my backed up photos from disc find they cannot be read, will read a commercial DVD movie but not the home DVD which will play on a DVD player. The discs with photos do not read although they can be read on an old compaq,so I know they are there and the disc was made correctly,

thanks

it could be that it was burnt ina  certain way, such as "data" which your dvd likely can play and your pc can not (unless you have software that can aid the viewing of the files)

can it see the dvd at all, ie tell you what the size of the dvd is, or will it not open the dvd at all?

make sure that your optical drive is clean and the dvd you speak of that has the pictures on is wiped clean aswell (even if you think its perfect)
