Do VAIO notebooks need a certain phone cable???

when i plugged my vaio k-series into the wall with the supplied phone lead it worked fine, except its incredibly short for where i use my notebook. When i tried another lead from my home fone which fitted perfectly and looked the same. the internet would not dial... does the notebook only use a specific phone lead???

Um........it's a little hard to say because you don't specify what the cables actually were. An identical cable to the one supplied should work the same.

The fact it doesn't work suggests one or both of the plugs is wired up differently. This is a common problem with modem cables.

If you get a telephone extension cable and then plug your modem lead into that you should be OK.

Usually it's an RJ-11 to standard BT phone socket type (male)
