Can anyone tell me if this driver:
sony CRX830E-10T
http://www.shopgenie.com/COM_listing/gen_1/J000072301.html
would work in my old Vaio PCG-FX301 (replacing the original DVD rom driver that can't brun anything....)
any tips reagarding setup procedure would be appreciated as well !
cheers
I think it would work, it's fitting it in the machine that might be the problem.
hi, thanks for your reply
do you mean it could be tricky to actualy fit the part if the operator is not a fine specialist, or that it could physicaly not fit at all ?
What do you reckon is the right way to make this clear ?
Sony France maybe ? well, maybe not:
I'm in touch with Sony France right now with regards to the maximum RAM capacity and module types of my PCG-FX301: they pretend it runs PC133 So-DIMM SDRAM up to 256MB.
I found there:
http://www.crucial.com/eu/store/listparts.asp?Mfr%2BProductline=Sony%2BVAIO+PCG-FX%2FFXA+Models&mfr=...
that it runs SODIM SDRAM PC100 CL2 modules which is actualy true : more acurate than what I got from Sony France.
and that it runs up to 512MB
so who should I trust ?
If Sony France does not know what the product they sold me was supplied with, how could they acuratly tell me about compatibility between my vaio and the CRX830E-10T DVD/CD-RW driver ?
sorry, that's a lot of questions
I mean physically.
All it takes is one mm too big....
As for the memory, Crucial are usually spot on.
ok, thanks... I think I'l forget about the driver and save ¿¿¿ for a new vaio with all all the bells and whistles (errr... later
Thanks for the info about crucial, I was a little confused
see ya !
Specially with France's delux tax!
Ouch
you tell me ... 😕
(errr, UK's one is quite nice as well
anyway, I recieved the 256MB module from Crucial yesterday: spot on like you said (you did not tell me they would deliver within only 45 hours
my old companion feels much better with 384 vs 128MB !!!
I reckon it just won at least another year of service as it's a far enough performer for Mozilla 1.7.3 browsing/email/calendar, Open Office editing, or connecting at 9600b/s to some Cisco device and that's basicaly all I need for working at my client's.
As for the combo dirver, I'll manage like I always did for 3 years, no big deal (and I'll take my wife to some nice restaurant with the 64¿
thanks mate
No problem, glad you are enjoying the upgrade!
