FE Series - 2 GB of memory limit ?!

How is it possible that such laptops as Vaio FEs support only up to 2 GB memory They have fast core duo processors (1.6-2GHz) and large HDDs (160GB) that will be able to run programs about 8 years in future without problems.

But 2GB of memory will be not enough in about 4 years. 4 years ago even 256 GB of memory was not so bad. Now you cant do without 1GB. So in 4 last years amount of needed memory doubbled two times! With Vista this trend will be even faster.

Is it possible to extend this limit somehow? With tweaking BIOS? Or will it be possible to extend it to at least 4GB in future?

I have heard that official specifications dont count. It doesnt matter, you can put in as muh memory as you want.

And that limit is set to 2GB only because 1GB module is common now and hence it has 2 slots x 1GB = 2GB limit.

Is it true?
