FX 701 - Two Problems, any help please ???

Greeting Vaio Users..Can anyone help with two problems I am having with my 701 please ?
!st, I have been having problems with screen/systems freeze ups almost from when I got my Vaio (almost two years now, and no solution yet)!!
My system will just freeze up completly at random, regardless of what I am doing at the time (sometimes 4 or 5 times a day, sometimes I can go a couple of days with no problems)
The machine is kept up to date with all the MS patches etc and I do regular maintainance with Ad Aware, Norton AV and purge the machine of junk at least every week etc etc
The only clues that I can find are two entries in the event veiwer (both under system and both apear twice) that alaways show up after a crash.
They are- Application popup - machine check
And Application popup - machine check : regs (both event id 26)
I should also mention that when the system/screen freezes I have no option but to hit the power button (god I hate doing that) because nothing at all works , not even task manager.
I did read somewhere that this might be a compatability issue between sony and AMD components (any truth in that rumour)?

Secondly, just recently I have been having a problem with the Disk Clean up tool. When I attempt to use it, it will go as far as saying its checking commpressed files then stop and go no further. It also then seems that it is running the CPU at 100% !! (when I check perfomance in task manager it says Cleanmgr.exe is hogging all the resources)

Right thats it, SORRY for waffling for so long but its really getting on my T*TS now and hoped that some of you guys and gals might be able to point me in the right direction.

Im a huge fan of Sony products and have always rated them highly, but this (Vaio) has been my first real let down.

Thanks for anyone who reads this or offer any help.

Cheers for now,

Andy.

Ps.Was a bad day today (crashed twice while trying to post on here...Poxy thing)!!

Poot to them all !!!

At least I seem to have the most stable unit now though !!
Serves them right !

You would be amazed how many of the people I know who have had computers for a much longer time than I have, yet seem to know nothing about protecting themselves online or carry out any proper maintainence !

I might not be a wiz kid yet but at least I try to learn as much as I can and even end up advising them on bits and pieces that I would of thought most take most people take for granted these days !! (un-belivable really)

With the help and advice I have had from people on here and reviewing other information on the forums, I have learnt more in a few weeks than than in all the time i've had my computer !!

I have also found XP Answers Mag to be a really interesting read and helpfull too, yet no one else I know bothers to read or learn anything !

I dont get it !?!?.... I always thought you could never stop learning when you own a computer.

Still im waffling again,
Catch ya later,

Andy.

Andy,

Has a lot to do with the will to learn. If you like PCs, sure you'll persue them.

But some people just can't be bothered, or are too busy.

Shame really as computing can be very very handy.

STILL GOING STRONG !!

Hi Guys and Gals,
Just thought I would let you know that my 701 is still going strong (12 days now) and not a single freeze up !

I thought that a little feed back was was in order, so should anyone else suffer a similar problem at least you would know that your advise worked fine (thanks again)
I dont feel qualified to dish out info on the boards just yet, so at least by letting (the EXPERTS know) maybe it might be of use for you guys to help others.

Cheers again and catch ya later,

Andy. (happy again)

Still happy with no freeze ups....But I have noticed that the system as a whole has slowed down a bit :slight_frown:

Is there anything that the new bios would have changed to make this happen ? Its not un-bearable but it is quite noticable.

Any ideas anyone please ?
