hdmi 1.3 to 1.4?

Hello,
I own a Sony Vaio VPCEE2E1E with a 1.3 hdmi port (I think?) but have recently  bought a tv with both 1.3 and 1.4 ARC ports, should I buy a 1.4 hdmi  cable to connect the both or does the cable have to be 1.4 to 1.4 or 1.3  to 1.3? Thanks in advance for any answers or advice

The 1.4 standard is backwardly compatible with 1.3 so you can use either cable with either port. But if you are outputting from 1.3 then, unless you are looking to future proof, there is little point in paying extra for a 1.4 cable.
