Do you see the Vaio Logo splash screen when you first turn the Vaio on?

If so, try tapping F2 repeatedly to open the BIOS screens.  Look through the screens to see if the hard disc is recognised by the BIOS.

It sounds like a corrupted boot sector or a faulty hard drive.

What model do you have and are which version of Windows are you running?
