I am trying to perform a recovery on my vaio VGN-A417m with os xp , I successfully did this over a year ago but wanted to clean up a much used and valued member of my family, however when computer reboots it i am informed that this utility cannot be used on this computer and requires me to confirm model number, where would i do this.

Try setting the BIOS to default settings,

hit F2 on boot at the splash screen,

then when the bios loads

hit F9 to restore bios defaults,

hit yes to confirm

and F10 to save and exit.

hopefully that will allow you to restore.
