Home networking and file sharing NIGHTMARE

HELP
I HAVE SUCCESSFULLY SETUP A WIRELESS ROUTER NETWORK (NETGEAR ROUTER) WITH 1 DESKTOP PC AND A SONY LAPTOP.
I HAVE FAILED TO SETUP A HOME NETWORK TO SHARE FILES OR FOLDERS BETWEEN THE TWO COMPUTERS! I HAVE RUN THE WIZARD TO SETUP A HOME NETWORK BUT IT WON'T LET ME LOGON TO THE NEW WORKGROUP?
WHERE AM I GOING WRONG?
I DON'T REALLY UNDERSTAND IT AT ALL?
HELP

Hi aviduser,

Are you using XP Pro, XP Home or a mixture of the two?

Have you 'Shared' the folders you wish to access from another machine?

How do you connect to the Internet and does this work?

Hi Blencogo,

Sorry to butt in on this thread but I'm also having problems setting up file sharing on my home network.

Configuration as follows:
- SONY VAIO SZ1-HP/B laptop
- Gateway Desktop PC
- Both connected to NETGEAR DG834PN wireless router.

Both computers can access the internet.
Both computers have file and print sharing enabled.
The Gateway desktop PC CAN see shared folders on the Sony VAIO.
BUT the Sony VAIO CANNOT see the shared folders on the Gateway PC!

Anyone got any ideas? I've dabbled a bit with the firewall software but don't want to muck up the settings completely!
Gateway PC firewall is McAfee Personal Firewall v4
Sony VAIO firewall is Norton Internet Security 2006.

Any help gratefully received!

Kind regards,

Mark Hone

Have you tried disabling Norton to see if it'll work?
