How can i increase battery run time?

Hello, i've notebook sony vaio VFN-FS115B

I've made yesterday na experiment of battery run time:

low cpu usage (0-2%)
cpu is running on low power (800MHz instead of 1600MHz).
Wi-Fi is off
the lcd monitor is displaying all the time, but i have press Fn+F5 few times to decrease brighteness to minimum
all usb devices unpluged
i've switch off option to stop hdd, hibernation, stand by etc. when laptop is not used

Have you tried making the desktop black ? Or another very dark color ?

Actually if I am not mistaken, our tests show that white backgrounds use less battery.

Thanks for the reply. So you suggest that laptop lcd monitor is taking more of battery power? During my work i prefer to fullscreen everything, and unfortunately most of the applications use bright colors
