You can`t watch mpegs on it. Only jepgs.

Thorin

Du kannst keine mpegs darüber anschauen nur jpegs.
Es gibt einen SONY player der das kann, aber wie der heißt weiß ich nicht und ob der schon raus ist auch nicht.

WRONG!!!

At this time u can store movies of anytype on the device.
Just use the USB-cable supplied and transfer them on the disc.

To watch them on the VGF u will wait till SONY or somebody else brings a firmware-update wich enables that.
Technically it is possible and i hope SONY is smart enough to bring it out (to compete with the iPod-Photo that can even at this stage play movies (sort of..)

I don't think it is possible to watch a movie etc as the device has no mpeg4 or the like decoder chip.

Thus it will only ever show jpeg files.

And it does not do a very good job of that either.

Of course you can copy the files on to the device (as per thread title).

Automan....there´s no need for a decoder chip.
The CPU can do this irt.
Remember...the first PeeCees...and many actuals don´t have a GC with decoder chip.

So i tell ya that it can be done...all a matter of SONY and fw update.

Would its CPU have enough power for soft decoding of mpeg4 in real time?

I have noted today that if you select by genre and random play (with 3000 items in that genre) that it can take up to 3 seconds to find the next track in the list to play.

Yes, the CPU would have enough power to handle it.
The reason why u see a lag is because of the hard-drive, it needs to spin-up every time u acces some information, songs etc.
The HD spins dow due to energy-management (to save power).
Also it may delay the random acces of titles because of the different lenght of data i.e. name of song and artist with variouse lenghts and signs.

Do you know what processor is used in this player? If so, what is it?

Do you also know how much firmware memory is in this player? If so, how much?

I'd love to know that too.
