Installed "S2_Utilities" on my new S2XP, now special keys and power management dont work anymore!

Oh no,
I downloaded the software upgrade available for my new S2XP and installed them, including the "S2_Utilities.zip"

After rebooting

- all function keys (for display, S1, S2 key etc...)
- CPU speed selection

dont work anymore... the s2xp is running at full speed with full ventilator speed, full noise, etc...

a hassle...

please tell me what to uninstall or which fix to apply for this...

thanks,Christoph

let me add that I installed the pack

Original Utilities Package
download
Version :
Size : 20836 Kb
Language : All
Info
( 10/7/2004 9:19:26 AM )

on the pre-installed windows XP SP2

the tool "Sony Notebook-Setup" now has an english description in the control panel (while all others are german)
and most important: IT DOES NOT WORK...

it does nothing when clicked, nadda, nichts...

How shall I proceed....?!?

Furthermore... where is the search-function in this forum?

Something similar happened to me with the S1 S2 keys, but reinstalling again the utilities fixed the problem. However, the Vaio Power Management is not working anymore. Check if you have these files:

C:\Program Files\sony\vaio power management\SPMgr.exe
C:\Program Files\sony\vaio power management\SPMPanel.dll
C:\Program Files\sony\vaio power management\SPMDAM.dll
C:\Program Files\sony\vaio power management\VSyncGUI.chm

If not, good luck trying to fix it. I tried anything I could think of with no luck so far :slight_frown: (apart for a full system recovery)

I would recover the unit.

Thanks for your tips...

I recovered the notebook already, but it sucks big times having to re-install and configure all applications again, just because Sony told me "there's an updated software"

What does that package provide except junk that does corrupt my system?

I have sworn to myself to ignore all these messages about untested low-quality software upgrades...

Before I bought a Sony VAIO I though Sony puts more effort/money into quality assurance than other vendors, but it turns out they have similar or worse problems...

Usually they should work without problems.
Not sure why they didn't work for you.
