I have owned this laptop from new (2001) and the HDD has now packed up. I bought a 40GB drive but the Sony recovery CDs won't install onto it. Neither in fact will any other OS. The bios sees it and reports its correct size, and the disc spins up. I can't however partition it or anything else.
Is there a HDD size limitation in the bios? I can't get a 12GB disc now. Is there a bios update for this model? If so where?
If there is no size limitation does anyone have an idea what the problem is. It is most frustrating and I don't want to throw an otherwise good machine away.
