PCG-C1XD HDD Upgrade

I am trying to install a Samsung 40GB HDD (M0402H) into the C1XD which previously had an IBM 12GB HDD. The new HDD is not recognized and is not listed in the BIOS setup. How do I get BIOS setup to recognize the new HDD?

isn't anyone out there able to help. I think that I need to get the BIOS to recognise the HDD - are there any Sony Vaio Bios updates??
