PCG-FR295MP hard drive problem

I have a 40gb hard drive but this is spilt between two 20gb separate drives, the C and D drives, it seems I can only use the C drive for storage and programs, anything on the D takes a while to load. Is it possible to move the fence between these drives and make the C drive larger?
It just seems stupid to have 20gb of storage that I can't seem to be able to use, of course I must be the stupid one...

okay, reading through another post and I see that this is a partition in case I need to perform a system recovery (or is it).
Well everything I need is backed up on cd and I have the original recovery cd, so... dang ahm stoopid
