Problems with build-in speaker ( Vaio 21S)

Hi there I have a few days old Vaio.
I noticed that when I turn the sound at the upper third of the possible volume I get a very high and loud sound even if there is no sound output at all.
As you can guess this is very annoying. Is my leptop faulty? Can this be fixed? Or should I make use of my guarantee?

Sounds like a fault to me, I'd take it back to the retailer and inform them.
