Problems with my CD drive

Today i went to burn a copy of some photos i did for my friends band but was stopped by the cd drive not opening. Since then i have looked around on the system and noticed the cd drive (g) icon in My Computer has disappeared and when i went into device manager under dvd/cd-rom drives there was nothing apart from the dvd drive. Does anyone know how i can sort this out or is it a case that the cd drive is knackered? If it helps i have a pcv-rx1 desktop.

Sounds like it might be buggered.
Open it up if you can and check the cables.

Yep its dead.

Double check the cabling. In addition, inspect the controller board so see if anything has blown on the underside.

A new CDRW drive does not cost much now.:smileyhappy:
