removal of DVD-Writer from VGN-FS 195XP

Hello,

I want to substitute my DVD writer (this "wonderful" DW-D56A drive ) from my Vaio VGN-FS 195XP.
Can anybody tell me who I can remove my current drive?
Which other DVD writers are compatible with my current front panel?

Hi kristens and welcome to the forum.

The DW Q58A will accept the front bezel and, as I understand, has been used by Sony to replace faulty DW-D56A drives. You should be able to source this from PC World.

Have a look at this link for opening an S series Vaio – I understand that they are similar….

are there other possibilities from other producers maybe Panasonic, Pioneer, NEC ... to replace, but where my current bezel still fits.

Or can you recommend this DW Q58A drive from Sony?
