I recently invested in a VGN-S2XP. The battery is always charging although it is at 100% charge. Is this normal for this notebook in particular or Sony notebooks in general? Other notebooks that I have used stop charging the battery when it is full (Fujitsu-Siemens computers are set to not restart charging until the charge level drops to 90% to reduce charge cycles which shorten battery life).
What is the general experience of the life of Sony batteries - do they need to be replaced within a year due to serious loss of capacity?

All the Sony notebooks exhibit the behaviour you describe. The battery does stop charging when full - it just doesn't report it to Windows.
Sony batteries are about average - no better - no worse - than other notebook suppliers.
