Second RAM-slot?

Hi boys & girls!

Yesterday I bought 2 new DDR333 512 MB of RAM to enhance my VAIO experience. But, my problem is that I can only find one of the memory slots?!

Then I heard from someone that the second slot is under the keybord? But I can't lift it because it's stuck! I've found the 3 "locks" and unlocked them, but still there is something holding it....

Can someone please explain what I might do wrong, and how do I solve this?

But...hmm. My computer had 2 x 256 as standard. So the slot under the keyboard (under the hatch) wasn't empty. It had a 256 MB Ram in place, so now I'm running at 768 MB?!

I think I have to go the the Sony store an let them change the hidden one. Because they said when I bought my VAIO that I could upgrade to 1 GB.... grrr

u bought the computer and u found the slot with the hatch not empty?
whats ur model ?

maybe this is 512mb and this time, there is no other hidden slot(?)

Where can i get ram for the slot under the keyboard? And how much will it cost roughly?

nono!! it wasn't empty at all! There was a 256 MB card. And I removed it and only try to boot with the hidden one! And it said that I still had: 256 left.

So now i've got a hidden slot with 256, and then 512 in the one i changed

Hi, I've got a VGN-A317M and have recently upgraded from 512 to 1GB.
I wasn't sure where the RAM slots were, so I looked on the VAIO help pages.
I found a helpful and informative set of diagrams showing exactly which screws to remove and how to do it. Installation was easy.

You will see a link to
"How can I upgrade the memory of my Vaio Notebook or Desktop ?"
Just enter your model number and it should give you full instructions.
On mine, there were two screws underneath, where the first mem slot is.
These release the keyboard.

As a P.S. to my previous posting: -
Most of the prices I was quoted for VAIO RAM were around £200 for a single 512MB module. (Scary prices).
However, I shopped around and OFFTEK beat everyone else by miles.
