Sony PCG-K215B

Hello There.

I have the Sony PCG-K215B and I am trying to find out about the USB ports. the spec says 3 x USB 2 ports

http://www.vaio-link.com/specifications/specifications.asp?l=en&category=-1&serie=-1&m=1643

Yet in Driver Manager I see..

+ Universal Serial Bus controller
NEC PCI to USB Open Host Controller
NEC PCI to USB Open Host Controller
USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub
+ Universal Serial Bus controller
PCI CLass USB 2.0 Enhanced Host Controller
USB 2.0 Root Hub Device

Is this correct, as it seem that only 1 port is USB 2, the rest 1.1

How do I know which port on the laptop is USB 2.0, is it the port at the rear or one of the pair on the left hand side of the laptop.

Do I need better drivers? if so where can I download.

I have uninstalled the USB ports in Driver Manager and rebooted, however they keep coming back the same.

Thanks

Sean

Hi Sean,

What you are seeing in Device Manager is quite normal. Basically, your notebook has one USB 2.0 controller and two USB companion controllers that are reported as USB 1.1 devices. When you attach a USB 2.0 device to any port it will operate at USB 2.0 speeds with the USB 2.0 controller handling the logic internally.

Assuming that you are not receiving a message to the effect that “this device will run at reduced speed”, when plugging in a USB 2.0 device, then you don’t have a problem.

I bet it's restricted to X amount of USB2 devices which can run at the same time
