Startup problems FX605

Hi There, yesterday I bought a 2nd hand Vaio laptop; the FX605. The owner told me, the laptop had startup problems and probably the memory was damaged.

So here is what happends; when I push the startup button, I hear the fans rotating and the powerled is going to burn, but the screen stay's black.

I don't hear the harddrive "thinking", and I dont think the laptop actualy is starting up.

Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong?

Most of the time this is a memory problem.
open the memory slot @ the back and swap the modules, remove one, etc. see if this helps.
In case you don't know : make sure there is NO POWER going to the unit when dealing with Ram modules.
