Trying to connect a RODE VideoMicPro to my Sony Desktop and Laptop but having difficulties!

I have a Vaio Desktop ( SVL) model running windows 10  and Laptop running Windows 7 but when I plug my Rode VideoPro mic into the mic jack neither machine will see the external mic. I have an older vaio with a Line In jack and it does pick up the mic. I have tried a SC4 adapter for the Rode mic but that doesn't work either- any suggestions on how to make this work??

Have you checked to see if the mic needs additional software installed?
