TX1XRP/B will not even POST anymore

I had my TX1XRP/B for 10 days now, worked fine until this morning. Was just browsing away and it BSD'ed on me. Went to a black screen with the power light on. I forced the unit off (holding down power key) and turned back on. It got part way in to running WinXP and BSDed again, tried safe mode same problem.

Left it a while turned it on again and it booted in to WinXP fine. Used it 15 minutes and BSD again. Now if you turn the unit on the power light comes on, the HD light comes on for 20 seconds and the CD drive buzzes twice and thats it. You dont get the Sony logo on the screen, dont get any chance enter bios, no beeps.. nothing.

After several hours trying to get through to Sony (I am in Moscow) finnally got the number for a service centre, however they quote at least 21 days just to get a report on whats wrong with it! Is this normal? Is there any other action I can take to get this unit working again as fast as possible?

Thanks!

Try re sitting your memory, it could be the main reason why it won't POST

Thanks. Already tried that one, and even removed the module completely. The other module is of course soldered inside the machine so I cant remove that one.

It did not make any difference.

As it's 10 days old I would return it to the store

Store refused to accept it. I was within my rights to get the machine replaced but that would require court case against either the store or Sony and that would take even longer.

As it was Sony only offered to repair, their policy is even if machine is taken out of the box broken they will not replace it.

The machine is still at the repair centre, they have said that its the memory which is soldered on the MB which is faulty. They dont know when it will be repaired and as me to call again in another week to get a date.

All in all I am not impressed with Sony attitude here at all to spend $2500 on a laptop and not have it for what is likely to be a month by the end of this all is crazy and very very poor service.

Ahh I was right then.........

That's pretty crappy of them not to want to swap it, after all they can fix it on their own time anyway!

I am leaving Moscow next week... so if they have not fixed it by then I am not sure what I am going to do! leave it here! Take it to the UK and try and get it fixed there? This laptop has turned in to a real problem!

You should contact them and inform them you only have a week left.

Contacted on Monday and said I was going this friday (20th April, ok thats a lie)... they said call on Wednesday as still dont have the part. Called on Wednesday and they said call on Thursday, dont have the part.

Called today... still dont have the part but can take working laptop tomorrow morning after 11am... ??? Asked how they are going to fix it if they dont have the part, they replied 'We will get it from somewhere' ...

Something odd is going on. Is Sony Russia part of Sony Europe? Is there any part of Sony outside of Russia with whom I can write a complaint to?

That's very strange, how can they fix with no part?

I'm not sure if they're related
