Uninstalling Windows 8 from a Vaio SVT1112C5E

Hi all,

I really just want to be completely rid of Windows 8 and change to Linux, but the entire setup of this laptop seems determined to keep W8 on it at all costs.

There are no options for removing it, I've tried installing Ubuntu from a flash drive and it just won't let it. This evening I tried installing W7 from a flash drive (which installed fine in VMWare Player, so it does work fine) and it just will not let me.

Has anyone had any luck doing this or is it really just not possible?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm getting very sick of W8 and had I known of these frankly ridiculous issues, I would not have bought this laptop.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi TraversTee.

You will have to disable Secure Boot in the UEFI BIOS.

Before you do anything, make a set of Recovery Discs using Vaio Care - just in case everything goes pear shaped. At least you can return to Windows 8.

Have a look at these links: -

However, there are no Sony drivers for Windows 7 or Linux.
