Unsuccessful update to VAIO Gate

Hello,

I recently downloaded the Vaio Update "vaio gate 2.4.1.09230b_ALL" and since then the VAIO gate does not work.

Instead I get the error message "the application has failed to start because its side by side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command line sxstrace.exe tool for more details".

Is there any way of overcoming this, or uninstalling the update, to get the VAIO gate working again?

Many thanks.

Hi trsnell,

You can delete the existing version as you say and then you can reinstall the preinstalled software like this: -

1. Click Start -> All Programs -> VAIO Recovery Center.
2. Select 'Reinstall Programs or Drivers' and click Start.
3. Read the information about software or features to resolve the problems, select 'Skip' if you have already tried all of them, and click 'Next'.
If the User Account Control window appears, click 'Yes'.
4. Click 'Next'.
5. Select the desired software or software driver check box and click Next.
6. Follow the on-screen instructions.

You will probably choose not to reinstall the update until it gets fixed!

Good Luck

Hi trsnell and welcome.

Probably best to reinstall Vaio Gate.

What model Vaio do you have?  Different models may have different recovery options.

Hi Blencogo, and thank you for replying so quickly!

I have a Sony Vaio VPCCW1S1E. With regard to reinstalling the Gate, I can see that I would go to 'Programs and Features' in Control Panel to uninstall it, but how do I then reinstall it? Sorry if this is a daft question; I'm still pretty much a novice at all of this!

Appreciate your help   🙂
