Upgrade from 2x256 to 2x512 still recognises 2x256

Hi I have a Sony VAIO laptop model # PCG-K315S (GB) and I purchased a memory upgrade to take this laptop to it's Max of 1 Gig and installed it. To my surprise the system still only recognised 512 (2x256) this data was from System Information, The task manager and The bios all reporting the same memory config. However I ran CPU-z on my system and it reported the correct memory installed of 1 Gig (2x512). The system runs on the new memory but I am sure it is only using the old config of (2x256) as the task manager reports the breakdown and it does't exceed the 512 total. Can anyone help me with this issue.

Also I tested the new memory in my Advent laptop and it all worked fine at the full value.
