VGN FE31H & Vista

I upgraded my laptop to vista and found most things OK but it does run a bit slower. I also have a problem with the built in camera. The device manager says the latest driver is installed but I can not see the device in my computer. Sony say some things are not available in vista. Anyone else with this problem or solution.

Hi Stormchaser and welcome,

The camera cannot be seen in Vista as it can in XP. You cannot open it in My Computer.

You just need the same driver as you had for XP to be installed and you need to install the Vista Version of the VAIO Camera Utility 2.0.00.11140 available on your model's VISTA download page here: -

http://support.vaio.sony.co.uk/downloads/updates/updates.asp?site=voe_en_GB_cons&c=0&s=VGN-FE&m=2406...

You then just need to configure the camera in Skype or MSN and it will work automatically when you open the application that needs the camera.

Some models that were sold with Vista preinstalled have an additional Utility installed to record video or capture stills from the camera - if you want to try this you must download the Original Utility Package from something like the AR41-Series and install the 'VAIO Camera Capture Utility 2.2.00.14140' from here: -

http://support.vaio.sony.co.uk/downloads/updates/updates.asp?site=voe_en_GB_cons&c=0&s=VGN-AR&m=2679

Don't confuse the 'VAIO Camera Utility' and the 'VAIO Camera Capture Utility' - they are two separate programs with different purposes.
