VGN - FS315M Log On Screen

Hi Again Guys.

I have a tiiiiny little problem. At the logon screen, where the list if users can click and log on to Windows, if you leave it for about 5 minutes this message comes up.

"There were no files found"

A totally blank screen with those white words.

What do i do?

Thanks for taking the time to read.

Travis.

Hi Tr17av,

I would guess that it's the Windows XP screen saver files (logon.scr) that are not found, not sure how to restore them just yet though..:smileyconfused:

Hi Thalamus,

Thanks for replying. Hmmm damn Windows. Although, the screen saver works fine normally on the desktop.

Strange eh?

Yep logon.scr or logon32.scr is corrupted is my guess here

Try running:

SFC /SCANNOW

From Start > RUN

To see if this clears up the problem. THis command may need access to your WIndows XP files so point it to

C:\WINDOWS\i386

Hi Tr17av,

The logon screen saver (logon.scr) is different to the screensaver selections made in the Display Properties.

Try doing a search for logon.scr it should be in C:\windows\system32

Hey again,

Yep, Tried both suggestions. Logon.scr is where it should be, and did what James said too. Still no joy.

Anymore suggestions?

Thank you.

Hi Travis,

You may find that the registry may need changing, make sure you back-up the registry first before making any changes..

Click Start then Run and type Regedit, then press OK, navigate to the registry key: HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop

Look for the Data Type: under name: ScreenSaveActive Type: REG_SZ

Double click ScreenSaveActive and modify the value according to the Value Data listed below:
Value Data: [0 = ScreenSaveActive Disabled / 1 = ScreenSaveActive Enabled]

Exit Registry and Reboot

Grrr
It says to go to backup under the system tools menu from the start menu.
However, it's not in that menu!
this laptop is driving me insane!

I saved the individual registry key thing from the reg editor.

I followed your previous advice to edit it, and found that it was already active. So have just disabled it. That should stop the blank screen at least won't it?
