vgn-fs515b heat problem

hi all

my laptop (when used on my lap) has always gotten pretty warm.

lately this seems to be worse. especially in the bottom left and top right corners.

i do not recall hearing any fans starting to aid with cooling.

does my lap top have any cooling fans? are these hotspots normal?

Hi Colin,

welcome to Club Vaio..

What is the normal running temperature of your Vaio..?

If your unsure, mobilemeter is a handy application to use..

If your Vaio is getting hot you may need to first try clearing the cooling vents of dust with compressed air (you should be able to get this from your local PC shop), holding the can upright give the vents a short blast from a distance of approx. 10cm if you hold the can to close you could damage the fan..

If you do not notice any improvement then your vaio may need to be disassembled in order to deep clean the fan and cooling vents. If you would like a Sony disassembly guide for your model, please send me a Private Message using the following link: PM Thalamus

mobilemeter is showing 59/60 for the temp.

what temp should the fans come into action?

You should have heard some fan noise by now..

Hopefully it's just a build up of dust around the fan..

Did the guide help.?

No just the necessary bits..

If you unsure or nervous perhaps it may be worth taking your Vaio to a local repairer in your area..

Hi Thalamus,

I am also now having the same heat problem - top right hand side. Fan is kicking in so probably a dust build up.

Have downloaded and run mobilemeter and am getting readings of between  91 and 97 (shows C but other comment on the web says the reading is in F - instructions in Japanese doesn't help  ).

Would appreciate a copy of the disassembly instructions therefore if that is possible.

Thanks for any help which you can provide.
