XP SP2 for vaio PCV-LX2

I have tried installing SP2 and have come across a big problem. SP2 installs and the new window screen appears (blue line) but then the window just hangs and i am unable to access the desktop. I have tried the hotfix on the microsoft website which claims that it is either a bios problem or because the processor uses some form of step-up in its operation. Has anybody else had the same problem or can anybody offer any advice. Many thanks

Havve you tried pressing F8 during bootup and going to safe mode?
There you can roll back to before SP2

Yes, I am still running XP SP1 at the moment. However, I am currently not running the copy of windows XP of the system CDs supplied with the computer, but another copy of XP. Are there video drivers which would be on the system CD i.e. should i really have the system CD version of XP on my computer or is it because its a SONY.

Really you should be running the XP from Sony with the 2 service packs.
