Sony Bravia turns itself on randomly

I have just bought a Sony Bravia KD49X83 4K Ultra HD Android TV. I have a problem where the tv just turns itself on all on it's own at any hour randomly. I do not have any timers set. Does anyone else have this problem

There are no lights flashing or anything

Hi there

Goto ECO in the power settings and turn OFF 'idle tv standby' - this is the likely cause.

Sorry, me being dyslexic again, you mention TV switches on at random times - not off. When you say random times, do you mean at night or during the day - or both?

Do you have other devices connected to the tv that you use that may cause the tv to switch on?

Hi thanks for your quick response.

The tv turns on both during the day and night. I have an xbox and BT YouView box attched to it. The BT box has to turn it's self on in order to record a scheduled recording but this should not turn the TV on

Its the BT box under the TVs Bravia Sync settings that is probably turning the tv on.

Set the [Auto TV on] setting of [BRAVIA Sync settings] to [Off].

Give that a test and see if that works.

I have just connected my new smart tv to a talktalk box and also to the internet. It keeps turning itself on randomly. Can anyone help

Yes, mine too. I have a 43w809c. Randomly turns itself on night and day. I've turned the tv idle stand by ON. So the tv will switch itself OFF, should it turn on during the night, which it often does.

I also sometimes have to turn off the tv 3 times with the remote, as it turns itself back on straight after I turn it off.

Any ideas? Nothing is connected to the tv, except for the router.

Try keeping TV disconnected from network(wired and wireless) and also remove all devices connected on your set(HDMI or scart or whatever) for a while to check if issue insists.

If issue stops then reconnect one thing at a time until you find what is triggering your TV to Power On.

My googling has led me to believe, that the router is causing the tv to turn on somehow.

Some kind of power issue,

I also have a power issue with the usb connections, power is constantly on!

I cannot leave any usb plugged in to the tv, because the power is constant, the disc Is constantly spinning, even though, I'm not using or accessing the usb drive.

Any ideas? Any help?

Hi,

I think it is a good idea first of all to know what causes your issue.

About the HDD, did you try a second drive? Mine goes OFF a while after TV is powered OFF(STBY).

Did you check your Sync settings as Quinnicus mentioned before? Try disabling syncing.

Mine used to turn it's self on it was resolved by playing around with the sync settings. When my cable box started recording something and coming out of standby was resulting in the tv turning its self on

This is also happening to my new Sony 55XD9305 and none of the solutions above fixes it. I have got nothing attached to the TV and I'm usin wi-fi to connect to the internet. Surely this is a firmware problem that Sony needs to look into.

Any updates Sony?

Hello,

We have had the same issue with our new Sony TV. We used NetFlix and if I just turn off the TV without exiting the application the TV will switch on ramdomly.

However we have tried a number of different things and exit from NetFlix works for us give it a try if you haven't already.

I've had this problem but only since the latest update in the last few days (v3.473, released on or after 19/07/16). I've tried your suggestion and I'll see how it goes. Thanks for the input.

Edit: hmm, that didn't work. I've turned the sync off entirely now.

Damn thing came on again last night despite synch being off entirely, the wife just plugged it out of the wall. This morning I plugged it back in and left it on standby where it stayed for an hour and a half so perhaps the trick is to plug it out for awhile and let it boot back up. I'll try it again tonight and confirm either way.

Do you use Netflix?

If so press the back button until you get to a menu where you see exit application. This has fixed this issue for us on our to.
