general doubt regarding upgrade

if i upgrade my phone to ics n if internet connection breaks or something happens during the process, will my phone get damaged permanently? is it better if i give it to sony service center itself for upgrading? and what is flashing? is it the same as rooting?

if your internet connection stops working or there's a power outage, your phone will get a exclamation mark, to fix it you could try to use SUS or PCC if that doesn't work you could send it to get it repair with sony

You can't root 2.3.4 build number .62 unless you unlock your bootloader I don't recommend this if you don't know what you are doing, you could permanently damaged your phone.

flashing it's quite simple, if your internet stops mid update or power outage mid update and neither PCC nor SUS work and you don't want to send it to Sony and be w/o a phone for 4 to 6 weeks you could flash your phone and repair it.

i just called up sony india cc..they said i couldnt get my phone updated by the service center itself..i thought of going there coz pcc wont work on my comp..but thanks to u i found out about update service..so finally just want to be absolutely sure, i wont damage my phone completely unless i try to root it n mess it up right?

btw how much time does it take to ugrade from gb to ics? net speed is 1Mbps(around 130KBps) n i will be using update service..

it didn't work! i was pressing the back key while inserting usb cable n the software keeps hanging!:smileyangry:

called up sony india cc n they said i can use only pcc to update:smileysad: n service centers are not "authorised" to update:smileyshocked: but he said in future they will start updating phones..is it true? how is it in ur country?

FYI... Via PC Companion... Please keep in mind that, updating the phone will not start until the downloading the firmware is finished.... Once the firmware is downloaded, there is no need for internet connection... The downloaded firmware is pushed to the phone and update process will follow...... If anything happened(Power outage or laptop charge gone) on pushing the firmware, their may be a problem arises, Its upon where the download firmware is stored for updating, may be moderator or support/developer can answer this....

that doesn't make sense that an "AUTHORIZED" sony center is NOT authorized to update phones.

there is only one sony center in the US and it's really far
