Instead of "Android Market" icon i got "Slide SAM 4.0" In 2.1 firmware of X10 mini pro

Finally after a huge struggle UPDATED to 2.1 version for my Xperia X10 mini pro........

I have a Doubt after updated to 2.1:-

I dont find any "Android Market" icon now in 2.1 version and my doubt is i got a new icon called Slide SAM 4.0............ can anybody tell me what is this icon is about as i dont have internet(in my mobile, wifi) so i culdnt understand what is this...... did anybody got the "Android Market" icon after upgraded to 2.1???????

Is Slide SAM 4.0 and Android market icon both are same ?????? If not why I dont get Android Market Icon

Can anyone plz help me out????

I would recommend you to try performing a master reset on your phone or to reinstall the software update from the PC companion. The repair function is under software update on PC Companion. Even though you have the latest version of the software, you can if necessary reload it to repair any glitches that might have occurred when you first installed it or which have subsequently come to light. But, as when you updated it the first time, be sure to back everything up before doing so...

I also need you to reply back with your IMEI and SI number via private message. These pieces of information are given on the back of the phone once you remove the battery. This will help me investigate the reason of why you are not getting the Market app in your phone.

Hey Tony,

Im little bit confused on seeing ur private message that you mentioned like my phone is sold in United Arab Emirates, I couldn't find this is the reason because the software is Android and the phone is Sony.... if this is so why they need to restrict then what is the use of purchasing the Android device ????

If you consider the IPhone where ever you go or where ever you purchase or sold you will be having the IStore similarly the Android Market should be right???

Can you please provide me the solution to have Android Market icon instead of Slide SAM 4.0......... If there is no solution then its a serious problem.........

I am intrigued by this, I would assume that it is a carrier loaded piece of software so can I ask you to confirm for the other users of the forum where the phone was purchased from, where you are using it (if thats different) and what carrier you have.

There are forum members (me included) who have been recommending SlideMe as an alternative to the Android Market in countries where google and the powers that be in that country have yet to reach agreement over authorising the market. So in a way, if your carrier has had its hands tied by regulations not allowing them to give you Android market then they have maybe they have done a good thing in giving you something that gives you the next best thing.

Hey Suze,

I have sent you a private message which has my Mobile details.......... What you have said is okay but i dont find good with going for Slide SAM instead of the Android Market icon as you said Slide SAM is substitute(next best thing) for Android......... Every one loves to use the Best thing instead of substitute........

So i just want to know how to have Android Market instead of Slide SAM......... I am in india and just purchased the mobile in US..........

Plz...... can you help me out........... in this.......... as others are enjoying Android Market why should i use the substitute............ 😞

Thank you for the pm. Whilst I moderate on the forum I don't work for SE so have none of the technical know how / back up that you may think is available to me. I am just a keen user sitting at home with my laptop.

That is why I asked where you are in the world and where the phone was purchased from because without this information I can't give any other information. If it did come from UAE for example you won't have the Android Market as this is not allowed by the government rules and regulations in that area.

This is a list of countries where Android Market can distribute apps

If the country where the phone was purchased is not on this list then you will not be able to have Android Market. It is one of my pet gripes that the retailers in these countries sell the phones without making it clear that you will not be able to access the Android Market.

You can make changes to your phone to gain the market ie rooting it and downloading certain .apks/programmes to put it on your phone, but this will invalidate the warranty so you will not be able to seek repair should something go wrong. There is a thread over on Android Forums mini or mini pro section that gives you instructions.

As I have stated before it depends where the phone was purchased as this is 'hard wired' in to the phone as such and any upgrades will be dependent on the regulations in place in that area. You also haven't responded to which carrier you are using and what your location is now. Those three pieces of information are necessary for anyone else to add their views.

What do you mean about the three countries? You cannot of purchased the handset from three different places, you may have purchased it in one and are now using it in another. This is why I have been asking you for clarification.

Actually my brother purchased the mobile in United States through Ebay and I am in India(Hyderabad) and I am using Airtel Simcard........ I mentioned the 3 countries because you specified a link (http://market.android.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=138294) as Supported locations for Android, in that the 3 countries (India, United States & United Kingdom) is present ..... wt i meant to say is on seeing my IMEI you said it is United Kingdom and i bought the mobile in US and I am using it in India.. so all the 3 countries support Android right !!! But why my mobile failed to install Android Market icon???

Hmmm the problem with Ebay is that you have no guarantees as to where the phone originated from. The Sony Ericsson warranty is only valid in the country of purchase so you basically have a handset without warranty as you are now in India. If you are desperate for the Android Market have a look at this forum

This is exactly what we were talking about. Your phone was purchased in Ebay but the phone actually comes from the UAE and these phones do not have the Android Market due to government regulations. You could follow the instructions given to root the phone but keep in mind that this is not supported or covered by us in Sony Ericsson. I'm sorry to hear that you are having this situation with your phone.
