I started getting this 'Read error Try again' message. Read these forum messages, and realised that I too had also put my bank cards in my phone case! Took them out and Hey Presto, problem solved! Thanks to everyone above for their comments!

Hi, I have exact the same error on my German Xperia Z, where the message reads 'Lesefehler. Versuchen Sie es erneut'.

This is already discussed on the German androitpit.de but no solution so far.The problem seems to go back to the update from Android 4.1 to 4.2 but did not go away with the 4.2.2 update. It occurs only when the phone has data connection. Also a factory reset does not help.

I had the same problem and I Googled about it which brought me to this thread. Dg73 wrote something about his credit card being too close which made me remember I had my nfc function on. In my phone case I always have my bus card as well which works the same way as these nfc tags, I assume.

I turned the nfc off and it seemed to help. I always have it on for fast communication with my tablet but now I have a reason to save my battery life I guess 🙂

Mine started when I unlocked my phone saying 'read error, try again' and made a noise. I took my SD card out but it still said it so had nothing to do with the DR card. I noticed my bus pass was near my phone so I moved it away and as soon as I did it stopped saying it. Upon putting my pass near it again, straight away it came up with 'read error, try again.' hope this helps as it's not your phone its the chip in your cards!

Also how do I turn off the nfc thing??

In Melbourne we use a credit card style pre paid ticket. I was storing it in the mobile protective case. I have now noticed thanks to postings above that it was my card interacting with nfc that was causing problem. I cam replicate the error message just by putting my myki card in contact with phone. No card no more errors

Thats it write, the error is with NFC, it tries to read the tag devices and throw error if unable to read it, it you want to keep the credit card in the case, turn off NFC, it does not seems like a much usable feature anyway.

Hi,

Recently bought my Z Ultra, love it btw, and it started act like this today.

Yet I have had NFC on since beginning so why it acts up now is strange.

It started when I placed the phone on my library books, as they use rfid chip to register the loan.

But I never had this issue on my Acro S, so how come it bugs now?

Can the message be turned off as I use NFC for my MDR-1RBT headphones and tags, its a great feature once you get to use it.

Regards

Peter
