I have only noticed this today and only got my phone Monday so I'm a little concerned.

Basically when I have the phone on, if I hover my hand over the camera/phone it will go to black as though its in stand-by, if I remove my hand, it goes back on.

Everything is still running, but it seems like a battery saving feature, so if you had a case it will turn to stand by once the case was closed on the phone.

Is this correct? If so, how do I turn this off?

If not, why is this happening?

I don't quite follow, are you covering the camera lens with your hand?

Sorry, I've just done another little test and found its not the camera, but the notication light at the top of the phone.

Basically, say I have the phone on and I'm watching YouTube, if my finger or hand happens to brush or hover near the notification light area my screen will go dark, as though its gone to standby. So the screen is black and my video stops playing. The phone is still on, just not doing anything.

If I remove my hand or put my hand there again (I tested a finger will cause this just now) within 10 seconds or so, it will go back to being on, but I'll have to re-play my video as though I had pressed the power button to put it into standby.

That's normal, that's the proximity sensor that will lock the screen so you don't hang up during call while you place the phone near your ear

That's the proximity sensor and the ambient light sensor, you can not turn them off
