Sony camera app | background defocus issue

The pictures I click with this app does not get blurred. It always says "couldn't blur the background" and the screen stays there. Afterwards I have to press menu key to quit the app because back button doesn't work either. Please advise how exactly this app is usable. TIA. Sorry if I have posted in wrong section. Btw I have Z1c.

This is prob because the app cant find the target / background. For the blurr to work you need to give the app a target it can separate from backroung like the coffee mug on the img ->

Also You need to keep the camera very still when taking the photos (it actually takes 2 photos).

If the focusing is successfull you get to adjust the style and strength of the blurring as in images 2..3 -->

The result is not always very good considering the area of blurring. On my first try here it blurred the ear of the mug and part of the mug as well and here you can see it left parts of the books quite sharp. Trying different angles and distances may yield to better (or worse) result.

Downloaded this App a few days ago & I've been having quite a lot of fun playing with it.

Poor light in the pub last night where we had a family meal for my wife's 42nd birthday. With the not-very-well-lit interior, plus a harsh sunlit window behind, the phone coped well with the available light & the app did a good lob with the imitation shallow Depth Of Field; at least I thought so:
