How long to fully charge battery?

My phone takes a really long time to charge (I will time it later). How long does it normally take to fully charge the phone? From 0 to 100%, either with the phone or off?

Hi and welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.

Charging the battery from 0 to 100% takes about 2.4h.

If the phone is on and you have apps running using power it may take longer though.

Take a look at above thread. In your case you have 2600 mAh battery so you should expect about 2 - 2.5 hours without touching the phone for 0 to 100% charge.

Also try to keep battery level above 30% level all the time to extend its lifespan.

Yeah...It usually takes around 2hours.

One thing I noticed is that, the charger that came in with my Xperia Z3 Compact seems to charge it faster than the Sony chargers I have that came in with my older Xperia Acro S and Xperia Ray. Not really sure why this is... 😕

So, these time estimates are assuming you're using the original charger that came with the Z3 Compact and if you use any other spare/3rd party USB charger that you may have, it could be different for you.

Generally speaking charge times are dependend of capacity of battery (which is constant here - you use the same phone), charger maximum output power and usb cable used.

When you use USB cable phone senses charger capabilities (two data transfer wires are used for this). Use original short USB cable because on longer ones sense will fail and phone falls back to slowes mode (like charging from computers USB port).

Second thing is maximum output power. Xperias are designed to use up to 2 Amps (2000 mA) of power from USB port.

Default Sony charger supplied with the phone: 1.5A (1500 mA)

Older Sony phones chargers: 0.75 - 1A (750 - 1000 mA)

Computers USB port: 0.5A (500 mA)

Check your charger. It is probably one of those around 750 - 1000 mA range.

I'm from India and at my place the weather is mostly around 25-35c most of the time and in summers shoots up to 40.c

With some tools I came to know that my Z3 battery temps currently juggle between 30 - 35c so how’s this? This might increase in summers and might cross 40c mark.

And with continuous usage the device heats up esp. during nonstop chatting but I think this is usual for Z series & Sony has already taken care of this.

Also I think internal batteries are more prone to heating as opposed to removable batteries.

What are your inputs?

Will my battery get damaged in short span or again Sony has designed it for all type of climates and weather conditions globally????

I'd assume the battery will be fine and would have been tested as India isn't the only hot country that Sony sell products in

Yes esp. the arab contries where the temps are soaring ot at 45c or so.

Also, I charge my battery only when its below 14% so m i damaging my battery or its life span?

I read omehwere that battery should be charged once it drops to 30% for optimum lifespan.

So clear these doubts as well.

A low state of charge (as long as it's above 0%) is not in itself damaging to the battery. The problem is depth of discharge (DOD). Shallower discharges are generally better.

However, charging to very high cell voltages (4.35v, or 100%) is also bad. The best thing to do is charge the phone once a day but only to 80% or 90%. That will extend battery life enormously as you combine a relatively shallow discharge (typically 40% or 50%) with a moderate cell voltage (4.1v to 4.2v).

I wouldn't worry too much about deep discharges, and cycling 80%-0% is much better than doing 100%-20%, despite the fact that this is the same DOD.

You don't need to charge it for a certain amount of time before usage to get the most out of the battery and you can also use it while it's charging for the first time. If the battery is drained you may however need to charge it for up to 30 minutes before it starts.

I usually connect a charger and configure the phone while it's charging and let it charge til it shows 100%.

My Xperia Z3 takes almost 3-4 hours to fully charge from 15-100 percent. is it quite normal?? my phone was connected to wifi. and i was checking it a few times in between charging.

my sony takes...full charge 22 hours...that is not normal...but 3-4 is normal for me at least.
