Hi guys I've had this phone for a month now and mostly enjoying it. I have noticed since about 5 mins of having the phone I initially had led notification lighting up but after set up / installing my data I now don't get any led notifications for anything. Is this normal? Was I imagining the led notification or is there meant to be one? Any fix? Thank you

Hi @Nk87,

You were not mistaken, there is indeed a LED light placed to the upper left on the phone's front (number 1 on the picture below).

If it doesn't illuminate, even when you charge your device, I'm afraid that this could be hardware related. First of all I'd recommend that you try rebooting your phone into safe mode though, to make sure that this isn't caused by any third party app.

Oh no I just restarted in safe mode and all I got was a weak red light around number 7 on the image. I think it's where the flash should be. The red light would come on briefly with the charger in and stay on a few seconds with the screen off then turn off. Does this mean there's a hardware problem?

Number 7 is the proximity sensor and does illuminate slightly,
Number 1 is the main led and should be much much brighter whilst charging and when getting notifications.

No led came on. Just a faint red from point 7. I did the full diagnostic with no faults. I also tried safe mode with no difference made to led and a full reset. I think I'm going to have to send it away. Any experience of turnaround time for Sony or how it works? I guess this is not the best time of year in terms of service times.

There isn't, Ive just checked again.
I would suggest you contact your local support as it does seem to be hardware related.
You could try a repair installation using Xperia companion first, just to rule out a dodgy bit of software.

For all Android's famous customisation, I find the LEDs to be useless because I cannot switch them off for Gmail. Thus they flash for emails as well, when I only want to be notified of SMS, calls and Whatsapp messages when my screen is off. As my LED is often flashing to alert me that I've received yet another spam or low priority email I find the feature pretty pointless. Sure I could switch off Gmail notifications altogether, but I do still want to receive the banners....just not the LEDs. So I doubt that I would send my phone off for repair if this was the only fault. YMMV of course.
